I have been working in the field of mental health since 2011. As an older adult myself, I enjoy working with people 55 and over on issues associated with aging. However, I use evidence-based practices that are effective for people of all ages. I think of these as basic mental health skills.
I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) skills to develop awareness of unconscious thoughts, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills to learn how those thoughts influence emotions. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is helpful for understanding and changing behavior so that your actions reflect your values.
